Warrior Dash 2011
This weekend some of our Nebraska friends (Kim, Greg, Gabby, Finn, Jill, and Joe) came down to visit and participate in Warrior Dash 2011. We were so excited to spend time with our friends! We got to just hang out, talk, and play all day Friday. Good thing, because Saturday,at the Warrior Dash, we had to use some muscles that we had not used in awhile. :)
Mom was so awesome and she watched Laela, Gabby and Finn while we went to the Dash. Later, Karri joined her and I was so thankful they were there to help out while we had a little fun! We headed out to Roanoke and got there in plenty of time to check things out. We actually had to park at the Texas Motor Speedway and catch a bus to the site. We read that there were 17,000 participants expected and let me tell you...the event was run very smoothly and well thought out! Here are Kim, Greg, Joe and Jill before the race. WOW we were all so clean at this point.
We had some extra time when we got there, which made for some fantastic people watching! Notice the guys in the caveman look wearing just a jock and flaps. Oh man! What a great day for people-watching!!!
Then women in tutus...
and men in jean-short cut-offs. WHOA!
Just before getting in line we snapped a few more "clean" pictures.
Then off we went!
There were 3.25 miles of run/jog/walking space. There were also several obstacles, like crossing a FREEZING cold river, jumping over a few 4 foot walls, climbing a rope wall, running through tires and climbing over a pile of old cars, crossing a TALL stack of hay bales, climbing over logs in a swamps, jumping over a fire pit, and going under barbed wire in a large mud hole! Here is the results...

Greg had one clean spot on the back of his shirt; otherwise, we all had mud and dirt in places that should not have even been possible!
When we were done you could go get "hosed" off by two guys with fire hoses, standing on top of a storage unit. Everyone looked like a big group of pigs! Ridiculous! Oh! When the race was complete, you could donate your shoes. Seriously! What a great idea. They just hose them off and send them to other countries that are less fortunate. Here was the pile about 2:00 in the afternoon and there were still more races that day!
Shonda and Lori also came, but their race was an hour later than ours so they headed there later than we did. By the time we were done and partially cleaned up, Shonda and Lori just finished their race and I was able to catch them at the finish line. Lookin' good ladies!
Then I enjoyed a phenomenal turkey leg (YUMMM-O), while Greg and Kim enjoyed being warriors and having a small, finish-it-all-off beer. :)
Hope you enjoyed the break-down of our day at Warrior Dash. We all decided that we loved the experience and were so happy we tried it. Each of us said that we would like to try it again in another location and maybe make it a fun little event for us! Thanks again to our Nebraska friends for driving down. We had a ton of fun and loved spending the weekend with you!
